Ecologically Responsible Mangement

I have always felt fortunate to have a childhood on a farm, where I had creeks to fish and skate, hills to climb and toboggan, peaches to eat right off the tree, and large Black Walnut trees to sit under.

Today, Niagara (along with much of Ontario), is losing farmland and greenspace at an alarming rate. As we deal with a housing crisis across Canada, we have failed to build responsibly and with our natural landscapes in mind.

This past year, I have worked tirelessly alongside ‘Friends of the Richmond Street Forest’ to fight for our Frog Pond. In my time reviewing documents, I have seen first-hand that our City policies surrounding zoning and environmental landscapes need better protection.

Niagara is truly an ecological gem; we still have an opportunity to foster healthy growth in our city and protect our lands and waters. We are at an advantage with our green space, and we should be doing more to live responsibly within it.

Vision

- Update the mapping of our cultural and environmental heritage to include features that do not fall under provincial protection

-Push for more environmentally-friendly infrastructure, such as DRY stormwater management ponds, eco-terrestrial passages,

-Encourage environmental practices at the community level, including Tree and Rain Barrel Giveaways, naturalized gardens and rain gardens, and Community Food Gardens.

-With our upcoming transition to Regional Transit, advocate for Thorold's connectivity to our rural and urban neighbourhoods and throughout the Region.
